How to tell a story in 15 seconds

How to tell a story in 15 seconds

15 seconds is short. It’s enough.

Gen Z doesn’t watch long videos. They watch videos that hook at second one, grip at ten, and close at fifteen.

If your story doesn’t work in 15 seconds, it doesn’t work.

The structure that works

Sec 0-2: The problem Show something your audience feels. Frustration, curiosity, pain.

Sec 3-12: The journey How you solved it. Fast. Dramatic. Visual.

Sec 13-15: The transformation Before vs. after. Result. Hope.

Done.

A 15-second timeline in three acts: the problem from 0 to 2 s, the journey from 3 to 12 s and the transformation from 13 to 15 s

Techniques that work well

1. Visual contrast Black and white before, colors after. Immediate impact.

2. Big text “My biggest fear” → “I discovered…” → “Now…” Each line guides visually.

3. Music that builds Starts low, grows with tension, drops at conclusion.

4. Progressive speed Starts slow, accelerates as tension builds.

5. Close-up ending Face, emotional reaction. Connection.

What NOT to do

  • ❌ Long explanation
  • ❌ Multiple settings
  • ❌ No sound (95% watch muted)
  • ❌ Pale colors

Coral light beams shooting past at high speed, like a scrolling feed: only what is simple and bold can stop the eye

Quick revision rule: Does it make sense at 2x speed? If yes, it works. If no, cut it.

How would you tell your story in 15 seconds?
